Mission

The mission of Windward Community College Archives and Special Collections is to document the activities of Windward Community College and foster interest in the history of the Koʻolau by collecting, preserving, and making available records of enduring historical value.

Windward Community College Archives supports the educational endeavors of the College and seeks to be a community resource supporting research, teaching, and lifelong learning. Our vision is guided by the college's aspiration of ‘Ka malamalama o ke Koʻolau’ - serving the educational needs of the Koʻolau community.

Repositories

Windward Community Archives and Special Collections consists of two distinct repositories: (1) the Institutional Archives of Windward Community College; (2) the Koʻolau Community Archives.

(1) Institutional Archives of Windward Community College (College Archives)

The Institutional Archives documents the stories of the College by identifying, arranging, and preserving non-current institutional records of enduring value originated by offices and activities of Windward Community College, and on a selective basis, those originated by its administration, faculty, staff, and students along with other papers and selected artifacts pertaining to the College, and provide for their use for administrative and historical purposes.

Definition of College Records:

College records are documents, publications, photographs, audio-visual media, ephemera, and other materials created by or for Windward Community College faculty, staff, and students in the course of official business and management of the college of historic value.

Collection Overview: Administrative Records, Biographical Records, Academic Life, Student Life, Buildings and Grounds

(2) Koʻolau Community Archives (Community Archives)

The Koʻolau Community Archives will preserve records of enduring value created by organizations and businesses in or for the Koʻolau region defined as the traditional communities of Koʻolaupoko and Koʻolauloa including, but not limited to Maunalua, Waimānalo, Kailua, Kāneʻohe, Kahaluʻu, Waiahole, Waikane, Kaʻaʻawa, Punaluʻu, Hauʻula, Lāʻie, and Kahuku and papers and manuscripts of prominent individuals of the geographic region of Koʻolau. Rare and unique collections will be accessioned on a selective basis at the discretion of the archivist. Access to this collection is provided for teaching, research, and historical purposes.
