Agripharmatech: Ethnobotany and Ethnopharmacology

Ethno Pharmacognosy Track

As part of the Agripharmatech program Ethnopharmcognosy  you will take a course focusing on 

  • Medicinal Plants of Hawaiʻi:

    • Characteristics of medicinal plants native to Hawaiʻi 

    • Methods for plant extraction, isolation, and identification of chemical constituents

    • Potential uses of these plants or their compounds in pharmaceuticals and other bioproducts

    • Careers in plant and medical biotechnology


  • Ethnobotany (Human-Plant Interaction):

    • The interrelationship between botany, socio-economics, belief systems, and history

    • Cultural uses of plants in Hawaiʻi, Asia, and the Pacific 

    • Scientific study of human-plant interactions
