Focusing Your Questions

Serving the health outcomes of your patient requires the use of good information that's relevant to their specific situation. Forming a good clinical question using the PICO elements can help you find that information:

  • P for Patient, Problem, or Population
  • I for Intervention (treatment, prognostic factor, or exposure)
  • C for Comparison intervention or Control
  • O for Outcome

The Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine Network has an excellent free online tutorial on using PICO to form good questions to guide your research.
