Why We Cite

When you use information (data, images, ideas, quotations, etc.) in your projects, reference the original source by providing details about where you found the information:

  • To give credit where it is due.
  • To help your audience find your sources, which could help their research.
  • To show there is support to back up the ideas you present.
  • To establish your credibility by demonstrating your use of information from reliable sources.
  • To avoid plagiarism.
