COVID-19 Updates and Resources: WCC Library

Starting March 22, 2021, walk-up appointments for in-Library computer stations and study tables are available for UH students, faculty, and staff between 9AM - 1PM, Monday - Friday.

Library Lanai services are available weekdays from 1PM - 4PM with no appointment needed.

In-Building Services

Beginning March 22, the WCC Library building is open on a limited basis to UH-affiliated students and employees from 9 am - 1 pm, Monday - Friday.

Per WCC’s COVID-19 Guidelines for Returning to Campus, patrons must wear a face covering at all times while on campus, including while visiting the Library.

In-Building Study Tables and Computer Stations

Walk-up appointments are required for in-building study tables and computer stations. Appointments are provided on a first-come, first-served basis as capacity permits. 

Patrons are guaranteed at least 45 minutes in the building once assigned a study table or computer station. After 45 minutes, a patron may be asked to vacate their assigned space if others are waiting.

Library staff will ask to see a picture ID and LumiSight status prior to building entry.

Group Study Rooms

No group study rooms or tables are available.

Other Services and Resources

No appointment is needed to borrow Library materials, pay fines, add funds to a printing account, or print from an express terminal.

Library access is limited to the main floor. Library staff will retrieve materials from the other floors and Hawaiʻi Collection Room upon request.

Laptop Loans

The Library is offering laptops for checkout to WCC students for the Spring 2021 semester.

Laptops are distributed by appointment only on a first-come, first-served basis. A variety of laptops are available and staff will determine which device best suits a student's computing needs.

Students should call (808) 235-7436 or email to schedule an appointment to pick-up a laptop. Laptop appointments are scheduled weekdays between 9AM - 4PM.

Online Resources

Access to online library resources is available 24/7 through the Library homepage. The WCC Library provides seamless access to 216,000 e-books, more than 55,000 e-journals, 50+ library research databases, and thousands of streaming videos. Reach out to our librarians via telephone, text, email, or library chat for assistance in navigating these e-resources.

Borrowing & Accessing Physical Library Items

The WCC Library offers touchless checkout & pickup of books and DVDs, as well as partial digitization (scanning) of pages or chapters from books. Patrons may also request Library items in person weekdays from 9AM - 4PM.

Placing Requests Online (WCC students, faculty, and staff)

Log in to the Library Catalog to place a request for a locker checkout (Request This Copy) or to Request Partial Digital Scan. Note: You aren’t permitted to borrow a library book if it’s available from HathiTrust (due to copyright restrictions), but you can still request a partial digital scan. 

Placing a Request Through a Librarian (UH & WCC students, faculty, and staff)

Contact a WCC librarian via phone, text, email, or chat. The librarian will work with you to determine if digitization or pickup is best.

  • If just a few pages or chapters are needed, Library staff will scan them and email them to you in PDF format.
  • If you need more than a few chapters, the staff will check out the item to you. They'll place it in a locker by the Library entrance and give you a pickup time and the code to open the locker. 

Pick-Up Lockers

Pickup Lockers are to the left of the library's main doors.

The library staff will tell you or email you a locker number. To open your designated locker:

  1. Enter the last 4 digits of your UH ID Number.
  2. Press and hold the Lock-Unlock button in the lower right corner of the keypad.
    The dial will click clockwise to the upright and open position.
  3. Lift the handle up, then pull the door open.

Returning Items

Note: If you are isolating and cannot safely return items to the library by their due date, please call 235-7440. 

Returned Item Quarantine: Returned items are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before being checked in, so it will be a few days before you see returns reflected on your library account. You will not be charged fines or fees for the time your returned items remain in quarantine.

Laptops & Equipment: To return a laptop, calculator, or other equipment, please call 235-7436 to schedule a return appointment. 

Books and DVDs: Return these to the book drop near the top of the stairs by the front entrance. You may also return these items to the book drop at any other UH campus library.

HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Ebook Access

The HathiTrust (pronounced “hah-tee trust”) Digital library is providing emergency temporary access to its online books during the pandemic. 

If a UH library owns a physical copy of a book that's also in HathiTrust, the catalog will show a link to it.

Click on “Full Text may be available at HathiTrust” and sign in with your UH username and password if prompted. 

This takes you to the book’s description in the HathiTrust catalog. 

Click the “Temporary access” link, then click the “Check Out” button. 

Note: You aren’t permitted to borrow the physical copy of a library book if it’s available from HathiTrust (due to copyright restrictions), but you can still request a partial digital scan. 

Fines & Fees Payments

You can pay outstanding fines & fees by credit card in person, over the phone, or by mailing or taking a check to the UH Manoa Hamilton Library.

Pay in Person

See the staff person at the Library entrance between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

Pay by Phone

Call the UH Mānoa Hamilton Library Business Office at 808-956-7203 between 9-12 or 1-4, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). 

Pay by Check

Make your check out to "UH Libraries". You can take it to UH Manoa's Hamilton Library, Room 101, or mail it to: Hamilton Library Access Services, Room 101, 2550 McCarthy Mall, Honolulu, HI 96826 (Please enclose your name and UH number)
